
The Department offers the opportunity and exposure to a plethora of theoretical and applied aspects in Agricultural Biology. Subject coverage spans Plant Physiology, Plant Breeding, Genetics, Pathology, Microbiology, Entomology, Pest Management, Systematics, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and Germplasm Conservation.
The program also provides extensive hands-on training on biology related laboratory and field work. The students are also provided with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with national level research undertaken in relevant disciplines and conducted at the Department. They also have the unique opportunity of working with modern and high-tech equipments at the Agricultural Biotechnology Centre, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
In addition to its contribution to the core program, the Department offers four modules for the advanced program of the degree. The academic staff of the department have wide diversity in their advanced training which affords this possibility. Hence, students are able to select among Economic and Applied Entomology, Genetic Improvement of Plants, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology or Plant Pathology and Microbiology.
