The Department of Restorative Dentistry was established in 1980 and was located in the Dental School at Dangolla, University of Peradeniya. It was moved to its present location in the Faculty of Dental Sciences in 1998. Under Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Grant Aid Project, the Faculty received brand new buildings and all modern equipment for a Department of Restorative Dentistry. Since then the Department of Restorative Dentistry has been conducting the course for the 3rd and final year undergraduate Dental students.
Mission of the Department
The mission of the Department of Restorative Dentistry of the Faculty of Dental Sciences is to foster excellence in teaching for undergraduates and postgraduates , service function for public and research activities and to impart knowledge, mould attitudes and develop clinical skills including an appreciation of materials commonly utilized in dentistry enabling students to be competent in overall management, restoring form and function of the dentition, management of vital/non-vital teeth (Endodontics), Broken down teeth (crowns) and Restoration of Space (bridges).
