The Department of
Engineering Mathematics established in 1965, is attached to
the Faculty of Engineering at the Universtity of Peradeniya,
Sri Lanka. The principle goal of the department is to provide
engineering undergraduates with the mathematics necessary for
their Bachelors degree. The department is proud of the strong
undergraduate teaching programme, which is continuously in the
process of being reviewed and improved.
The department is also committed to fostering
postgraduate education and offers the Postgraduate Diploma in
Engineering Mathematics and Postgraduate Diploma / MScEng in
Industrial Engineering.
The department staff is also involved in supervising
MPhil and PhD level research in fields related to Engineerig
Mathematics.
Some of the areas in which the department staff is
active in research are operational research, statistics,
systems modeling, control theory, nonlinear dynamics and
decision theory. A particular emphasis is given to applicable
mathematics, in the sense of utilizing mathematical techniques
for applications in problems specific to a developing country.
