The following awards are made to undergraduates in the Faculty of Science on the basis of their academic performances at the examinations conducted by the Faculty.
Three University scholarships are awarded to the students who secure first place in Biological Science and, first and second places in Physical Science in order of merit at the General Science Qualifying Examination. The value of each scholarship is Rs. 1,200.00 p.a. for the duration of the course of studies.
This studentship is awarded to the most deserving student who is selected to read for a Special Degree in Chemistry on the basis of the results of the General Science Qualifying Examination. The award is made on the recommendation of a Selection committee of the Faculty of Science, who will take into account not only the academic merit, but also the financial resources available to the student concerned. The value of the award is Rs. 800.00 p.a.
Three prizes are awarded to the students who show the greatest competence at the General Degree Examination in Science bf which one is for the student who secures over 60% in Biological Science and the other two for the students who secure 1st and 2nd places in Physical Science in order of merit. The value of the prize is Rs.250.00, each in books.
This prize is awarded to the student who shows the greatest competence in Physics at the Special Degree Examination in science.
This medal is awarded to the student who shows the greatest competence in Chemistry at the Special Degree Examination in science.
This medal is awarded to the student who shows the greatest competence in Botany at the Special Degree Examination in Botany.
This medal is awar4ed to the student who shows the greatest competence in Botany at the Special Part I Examination in Botany. The value of the prize is Rs. 1000.
This prize is awarded to the most meritorious student in the First Year of the Special Degree Course in Physics.
Two prizes are awarded to the best two students admitted to the first year of the Special Degree Course in Physics and one prize for the best student in the second year of the Special Degree Course in Physics.
Two awards are given each year on the basis of the performance at the Second Year examination (General / Special Degree Part I).
Depending on the interest earned in these funds a varying number of Studentships are awarded every year based on merit and financial need of the applicants. Six Studentships were awarded in 1997.
This prize is awarded to the student who obtains the highest mark (> 70%) for Computer Science at the General Science Qualifying Examination.
This prize is awarded to the student who obtains the highest aggregate marks with A grades in the Organic Chemistry papers of the Special Degree Examination in Chemistry.
Seven Studentships are offered each year based on academic merit, extracurricular activities and the financial need of the candidates in Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Chemistry.
Two awards are available annually for postgraduate research in the Faculty.
