The General Convocation - 2014 of the University of Peradeniya will be held on 21st May, 2015 in the Gymnasium of the University in two Sessions.


IMPORTANT NOTICE !

  • Cameras, suitcases, bags, cellular phones or any other article.
  • Children below 12 years of age.
  • Please note that drinking water will be supplied for the graduands and parents/guardians.

All graduands are required to bring the Admission Ticket attached herewith to attend the Convocation Ceremony, and quote the number indicated in the Admission Ticket in all communications relating to the Convocation. The Admission Ticket is required when:

  • Obtaining your cloak for the Convocation Procession
  • Finding your place in the Graduands Procession and your seat in the Convocation Hall
  • Returning the Cloak and Garland/Vijinipatha
  • Obtaining the Degree Certificate after the Convocation

* If your name indicated in the Admission Ticket is incorrect, you are required to take immediate action to get it corrected and inform us in writing through the Deputy Registrar/Senior Assistant Registrar/Assistant Registrar of your Faculty/Institute on or before 15th May, 2015.

  • Two passes are attached herewith for your parents/guardians to enter the Convocation Hall. Wide Screen facilities will be made available for others to view the ceremony at the Arts Theatre, Geology Lecture Theatre and EOE Pereira Theatre.
  • The Convocation Hall will kept open at 6.30 a.m. for the Session I and parents/guardians who are allowed to see the proceedings should take their seats in the Convocation Hall by 7.30 a.m. The Convocation hall will be opened for the Session II by 1.30 p.m. and the parents/guardians should take their seats in the Convocation Hall by 2.30 p.m.
  • All parents/guardians are kindly requested to remain seated during the proceedings. Please note that no one in the Hall will be permitted, in any case, to leave the Convocation Hall until the Chancellor’s Procession leaves the Hall at the end of the Ceremony.
  • Graduands and their parents/guardians will be subjected to a physical inspection for security reasons before entering the Convocation Hall. Graduands and their parents/guardians are not permitted to bring cameras, suitcases, bags, cellular phones or any other article into the Convocation Hall. These restrictions will be strictly enforced due to security concerns. Please note that drinking water will be provided for the graduands and parents/guardians inside the Convocation Hall.
  • Toilet and canteen facilities will be made available at close proximity to the Convocation Hall and at parking areas. Toilet facilities are also available inside the Convocation Hall.

VERY IMPORTANT:

The Graduands, Members of the Organizing Committee and Academic Staff participating in the Procession will only be allowed to enter the premises of the Senate Building on the day of the Convocation.

Male graduands (except Clergy) should wear the National Costume or a full Western Style suit. Female graduands (except Clergy) should wear Saree/National Costume. All graduands (except Clergy) should wear the Convocation Cloak.

Female students with long hair should tie it in such a way that would not impede garlanding by the Chancellor



  • The graduands of the SESSION I must be present at the Ground Floor of the Senate Building by 7.00 a.m. and the graduands of the SESSION II should present at the Ground Floor of the Senate Building by 2.00 p.m. on the day of the Convocation. The number given to you on your Admission Ticket is same as your number/place in the Procession.
  • The Procession of graduands of the SESSION I will leave the Ground Floor of the Senate Building at 7.15 a.m. and the Procession of the SESSION II will leave the Ground Floor of the Senate Building at 2.15 p.m. to arrive at the Convocation Hall.

Note: The Convocation Procession will take place only if the weather is favorable. In case of rain, the graduands are required to occupy the seats allocated to them in the Convocation Hall by 8.00 a.m. at least for the Session I and by 3.00 p.m. for the Session II

  • The Vice Chancellor of the University will present the names of those who receive the Postgraduate degrees awarded by the Faculties. The recipients of Postgraduate Degrees of the Postgraduate Institutes will be presented by the Directors of the respective Postgraduate Institutes.
  • The graduands of the Faculties will be presented by the Deans of the respective Faculties.
  • A booklet containing the list of graduands will be given to you at the Convocation Hall.
  • When your name is announced, you should be present in front of the stage presenting yourself to the Chancellor for the conferment of the Degree. You should bow before him and receive the Garland, and thereafter, return to your seat. You should remain seated until the ceremony is over.
  • All graduands are required to rise when the Chancellor rises to declare the closure of the Convocation, and remain standing until the Chancellor’s Procession leaves the Convocation Hall.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL GRADUANDS AND THEIR PARENTS/GUARDIANS IN THE SESSION I SHOULD WALK OUT OF THE CONVOCATION HALL AND ITS PREMISES IMMEDIATELY AT THE END OF THE SESSION I IN ORDER TO FACILITATE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE SESSION II.

Cloaks will be issued to graduands as indicated below from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on the 13th, 14th and 15th of May, 2015.

Please note that it is mandatory to complete and handover the annexed questionnaires on “Information of Graduands Data and Employability Study of Graduands 2014” in order to obtain your Cloak. If you fail to handover these documents a cloak will not be issued.

The cloaks can be obtained at the respective faculties as follows.

You should handover your University Identity Card and the Student’s Record Book to the Deputy Registrar/Senior Assistant Registrar/Assistant Registrar of your Faculty/Institute and receive an acknowledgement before obtaining the cloak.

Inside the Convocation Hall

Please note that only the authorized photographers will be permitted to take photographs. Photographing inside the Convocation Hall will be done only by the Media Unit of the University Arts Council. If you need the package indicated below, please pay the relevant fee (1600/-) to the Shroff Counter using the annexed form and submit the Services Copy given by the Shroff to the Student Services Branch to get your Photograph Number. You should wear this number on the upper right hand side of your Cloak on the day of the Convocation. Please keep the Customer’s Copy, received from the Shroff, safely to enable you to collect your Photos and DVD.

Outside the Convocation Hall

Please note that two studios will be established by the University Arts Council at the WUS Canteen premises on the Convocation day to enable you to take your photographs outside the Convocation Hall. The prices would be as follows and payments could be made at the premises.

Photo size 7” x 5” - Rs. 300/-
Photo size 8” x 10” - Rs. 450/-
Photo size 8” x 12” - Rs. 500/-
Photo size 10” x 12” - Rs. 550/-
Photo size 10” x 15” - Rs. 600/-

The graduates should return the Cloak and the Garland/Vijinipatha to the Student Registration Branch at Senate Building to receive their Degree Certificate, along with the clearance form obtained from the Student Services Branch indicating that he/she has no dues to the University. The time period to return the cloak & Garland/Vijinipatha will be from 04th June, 2015 to 11th June, 2015 from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. Graduates who have not paid their dues will not be able to collect their Degree Certificate although they return the cloak and Garland/Vijinipatha.

The Graduates are advised to collect their Degree Certificate as early as possible and if fail to collect within one year from 11th June, 2015 he/she requires to pay a sum of Rs. 1000/- as a penalty.

* Please note that the Original Degree Certificate will be issued only to the recipient of the Degree.

Graduates are allowed to keep the Cloak, Garland/Vijinipatha for a period of two weeks after the Convocation. After this period, the recipient of the Degree should return the same to the Student Registration Branch as mentioned in No. 12 above. Those who fail to return them on the time period given above requires to pay a fine for the delay according to the Finance Committee decisions as follows;

  • Rs. 200/- per day after 11th June, 2015 until 26th June, 2015
  • Rs. 6000/- after 26th June, 2015

In case of loss of Cloak and Garland/Vijinipatha, the Graduate should inform the same to the Assistant Registrar, Student Registration Branch immediately. However, in such case, the Graduate should pay the replacement charges as follows according to the Financial Regulations 105(a);

  • If he/she informs immediately, before or during the permissible time period i.e. 04th June to 11th June, 2015 the fine will be the cost of the Cloak, Garland/Vijinipatha + 25% departmental fee.
  • If he/she informs during 11th June, 2015 to 26th June, 2015 the fine will be the cost of the Cloak, Garland/Vijinipatha + 25% Departmental fee + Rs. 200/- per each delayed date.
  • If he/she informs the same after 26th June, 2015 the fine will be the cost of the Cloak, Garland/Vijinipatha + 25% + Rs. 6000/-.
  • In case of a loss of Garland/Vijinipatha, if he/she informs during 11th June, 2015 to 26th June, 2015 the fine will be the cost of the Garland/Vijinipatha + 25% departmental fee + Rs. 50/- per day.

The Graduands who are not in a position to attend the Convocation should convey the same to the Student Registration Branch before 20th May, 2015 by 4.00 p.m. Failure to do so may result in delaying the issuance of the Degree Certificate.
