There are a number of societies and associations of the students which have been established with the approval of the University Council and they are registered at the Students Services Branch. Currently there are 48 registered student societies and associations to cater to the general or special interests of students with the support from members of staff. Of these bodies, the most important organization is the Arts Council of the University. The Arts Council organizes film shows, dramas and many cultural activities for the benefit of the University community. The annual drama festival is one of the most important activities of the Arts Council. The other activities of the societies include excursions, social gatherings, lecture series and other activities of cultural interest.
