Visit

Peradeniya can be reached by rail or by bus. The quaint Sarasavi Uyana railway station is where trains make a special stop for disembarking campus students. Those arriving by bus get off at Galaha Junction. The University, though a residential campus, is not too far from the historic city of Kandy. The Dalada Maligawa [Temple of the Tooth] is only a short bus ride away. The Peradeniya Botanical Gardens is a short walk from the main university campus. For those inclined towards shopping, there is the Peradeniya town, which also boasts a Cinema. If it is more variety and choice you seek, be it food or shopping, there is always the Kandy town which has both low-priced eating-houses and high-end restaurants, old-style boutiques and modern department stores. Many students enjoy a visit to the city during weekends. The public transport system is satisfactory and makes it possible for many students to venture into the city during weekends and on special occasions such as the Perahera [the annual procession around the City of the Temple of the Tooth] or Vesak [the festival commemorating the birth, death and the attainment of buddhahood by Lord Buddha].
