The University of Peradeniya recently organized an awareness program on green procurement on November 20, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Senate Room. The program was organized by the committee on sustainability through the Staff Development Centre (SDC) of the university.
Professor Terrence Madhujith, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and the Chairman of the Committee on Sustainability, Dr. Priyanga Wijesinghe, the Acting Director of the SDC, Dr. G.A.N. Suranjith, the Deputy Director of the Centre for Environmental Sustainability, and Mr. Thisil Weerasekera, the Acting Bursar graced the inaugural session.
The program drew active participation from sixty-two attendees, comprising administrative officers, members of Technical Evaluation Committees, and management assistants directly involved in the university procurement procedures.
Mr. Anura Lokugamage, Proprietor of Learning and Development Consultants and Former Senior Consultant at Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA), served as the resource person. The program was sponsored by Metropolitan Technologies (PVT) LTD.
This enlightening initiative provided a platform to delve into the intricacies of green procurement, highlighting sustainable practices and their integration into the University’s procurement processes. It emphasized the institution’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and echoed its proactive stance toward environmental responsibility.
