China’s NEAC Minister Visits Peradeniya University to Strengthen Educational Ties

On February 21, Hon. Minister Pan Yue of China’s National Ethnic Affairs Commission visited the University of Peradeniya to promote enhanced educational exchange and cooperation. Minister Pan Yue met with Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Ranjith Pallegama and other university leaders to explore avenues for deepening academic and cultural collaboration.

Minister Pan Yue led a distinguished delegation that included Mr. Wei Guoxiong, Director General of the International Department; Mr. Xu Fubang, Deputy Director General of the Department for National Solidarity; Ms. Qiu Peng, Director of the International Department; Mr. Chen Xicong, Deputy Director of the General Office of NEAC; and Mr. Qu Qiang, Deputy Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Minzu University of China.

University representatives—Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Lilantha Samaranayake, Director of the International Relations Office Professor Sanjeewa Malawiarachchi, and Professor Leena Seneheweera from the Department of Fine Arts—joined the discussions, emphasizing a shared commitment to fostering mutual understanding and building sustainable educational partnerships.
In addition to formal meetings, the delegation enjoyed a guided tour of the university’s expansive gardens and admired the picturesque campus surroundings, which underscored the welcoming spirit of the institution.

Both parties left the meeting with a strong resolve to further strengthen bilateral ties, paving the way for future joint projects, student exchanges, and cultural initiatives that promise to benefit both nations.
