Rohitha Prasantha on his appointment as Chairman of the National Institute of Post-Harvest Management (NIPHM), Anuradhapura, effective 15th October 2024. A Professor in Food Science and Technology at the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Professor Prasantha brings unparalleled expertise to this prestigious role.
NIPHM, operating under the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Livestock, Irrigation, Fisheries, and Aquatic Resources, serves as Sri Lanka’s premier institute dedicated to enhancing post-harvest technologies for grains, field crops, fruits, vegetables, and spices. Through cutting-edge research, training, and advisory services, NIPHM plays a pivotal role in reducing post-harvest losses and advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
Professor Prasantha earned his Ph.D. in Postharvest Technology from Humboldt University of Berlin under a DAAD scholarship. He has served as a Fulbright Scholar at USDA-ARS in California and completed postdoctoral training at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. As the current President of the Institute of Biology, Sri Lanka, his extensive leadership experience and global expertise promise to drive NIPHM’s mission forward.
