Convocation

One of the major expectations of parents in their life is to witness their children’s graduation. The Annual General Convocation marks the culmination of the academic programs of the students who have worked hard over the past 3-5 years to achieve their main objective. Every year, the Annual Convocation is organized by the university in a glamorous manner inviting parents to witness the graduation of their children. This year, you will be able to see the majestic ceremony on May 24th and 25th at the university. The university has made every effort to make the event as memorable and comfortable as possible for parents and graduands. Nearly 3400 graduands will be conferred on basic and postgraduate degrees at this year’s convocation which will be held in three sessions. The event will be webcast over the university’s YouTube channel and Facebook pages. The university was able to clear the backlog created as a result of the global pandemic by holding two convocations last year.

Convocation Messages
The University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka`s oldest higher learning institution has always maintained high standards and produced a galaxy of competent professionals in different fields to the country. Today we are in the third decade of the 21th centry - the country of knowledge. Today we do not have to wait hundred years as our ancestors to witness doubling of knowledge. It happenes so fast that we find it increasingly difficult even to keep pace with. I am glad to note that our scholars, however, not only achieving remarkable success in bringing rapidly changing new knowledge to our doorsteps but also contributing to enrich their chosen fields. While producing learned personnel who will provide contributions in various spheres to speed up our progress as a nation, I urge the academics to devote a portion of their valuable time to promote value orientation in our student community. I am confident our erudite academics are capable of positively contributing to spiritual progree of our nation in addition to enriching the knowledge culture. I congratulate the Vice-Chancellor, the academic and non-academic staff for their untiring efforts to make this important event a success even in the midst of difficulties and wish the very best to the graduates and postgraduates who pass out today to put into practice the knowledge they gained at this esteemed university.

Convocation Schedules

The convocation ceremony will be held on 24th and 25th of May 2023 in the University Gymnasium. The sessions are organized as follows.

Payments

Convocation fee should be payed to the University and the receipt should be attached during the registration process.

Convocation Photography

Convocation generates lifetime memories for graduates and their families. Understanding the significance of preserving lifelong memories, the University has organized taking photographs at the time of handing over the graduate scroll on the stage. Furthermore, studios have been arranged for the graduands to pose for photographs with their loved ones at WUS premises.

 

Hall Photographs

      • Hall photography will be carried out by the Media Unit of the University of Peradeniya
      • Graduands need to pay Rs. 750/- for Convocation Hall Photographs. Please pay Rs. 750/- to the Shroff Counter, A/C number 11-01-04-00-06 using the paying voucher, to your Faculty Shroff counter or the Senate Shroff Counter, which will be kept open for the purpose [weekdays 9.00 am to 3.00 pm and weekends (20th and 21st ) from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm]
      • Please indicate your seat number and name in the paying voucher and one copy should be handed over to the Student Services Division.
      • The graduand will receive a stub with the seat number printed with a pin along with the Convocation passes.
      • All graduands must pin the stub on the right shoulder of the Cloak for correct identification.
      • Please note that the seat number pinned onto the cloak helps sorting photographs.
      • An electronic copy of the photograph will be made available for you to download by 20th June 2023 using the username and password sent to you.

Studio Photographs

A number of studios will be arranged for you to pose for photographs with your loved ones. A few studios will be set up at WUS premises. The graduands need to contact the studio directly for photography. It is recommended that the graduands of Session I take studio photographs in the evening, while graduands of Session II take photographs in the morning. Graduands of Session III may take photos in the afternoon of the second day. (Please visit the university website for updates)
