The Center for Environmental Sustainability (CES) in collaboration with the International Relations Office (InRO) of the University of Peradeniya launched a series of events under the theme “Ensuring an informed and responsible society for environmental sustainability” to commemorate the international week of the University, 2022.
This series included several activities under four major categories as
- Community outreach activity on “Household Waste Management for Achieving Circular Economy”
- Enhancement of the knowledge and attitude of school children in “Mulgama Maha Vidyalaya” towards mitigating air and water pollution
- Inculcating environmental pro-attitudes among Peradeniya University Undergraduates and School Children in the Kandy district.
- Showcasing the wider community on Peradeniya University commitment to environmental sustainability through a Webinar (Guest Speaker: Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Terrence Madujith)
The Inauguration Ceremony of the Program; “Ensuring an Informed and Responsible Society for Environmental Sustainability” was held successfully on the 23rd of November, 2022 at the auditorium of the Postgraduate Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (PGIHS) of the University of Peradeniya, with the participation of the chief guest, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, the Deans of the faculties, the Directors of the post-graduate institutes, Director, International Relations Office, Director and Deputy Directors of the Centre for Environmental Studies, Environment Committee members of the Faculties of Arts and Science. Students from Mulgama Maha Vidyalaya and the winners of art/poster competitions participated in the event.
Drawing and Poster competition
With an aim of inculcating environmental pro-attitudes among Peradeniya University Undergraduates and School Children in the Kandy district, Poster/ Drawing competitions have been conducted by the Environmental Management Committees of the faculties of Arts and Science, and the winners of these both competitions were awarded certificates by the Acting Vice-Chancellor. Tree seedlings were also distributed among these participants. A sculpture craving program for the winners of the drawing competition was successfully conducted by Prof. Sudharshana Bandara, Department of Fine Arts, University of Peradeniya.
