A session under the distinguished JICA Chair programme, featuring a valuable keynote address titled “Japan’s Foreign Policy and Japan – Sri Lanka Relationship” by His Excellency Mizukoshi Hideaki, the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka was held on the 8th of November 2023 in the Senate Room of the University of Peradeniya.

The event was graced by Professor M.D. Lamawansa, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, and Mr. Yamada Tetsuya, Chief Representative of the JICA Sri Lanka office, Deans of Faculties and Directors of Centres. Following Ambassador Mizukoshi’s keynote speech, the event reached another milestone with the launch of a remarkable book titled “Journey of Ten Years, Sri Lanka – Japan Study Centre,” authored by Prof. Susiji Wickramasinghe. This publication delves into the center’s decade-long journey, offering a comprehensive overview of its activities and achievements.

In addition to the special session, a meeting was held between the Vice-Chancellor, Deans, Directors of Postgraduate Institutes, the distinguished HE Ambassador and JICA – fostering dialogue on how the University can further fortify its ties with Japan and explore potential collaborations. This insightful discussion aimed to pave the way for fruitful partnerships and academic exchanges between the University of Peradeniya and Japan.

This distinguished event was impeccably organized by the Sri Lanka Japan Study Centre, in collaboration with the International Relations Office and the Business Linkage, Innovation, Incubation, and Technology Transfer Office. It stands as a testament to the enduring commitment to fostering international relations and academic excellence between Sri Lanka and Japan.
