A large volume of waste is generated daily in from nine faculties multiple centers, divisions and units. Solid waste generated includes recyclable plastics, non-recyclable polymers, clinical waste, glass, metal, paper, and swill. Currently, most of the recyclable waste is sent for recycling, however, there was no proper safe mechanism to dispose of non-recyclable plastics and other waste. The university tried hard to acquire an incinerator to safely burn non-recyclables, however, this did not materialize until April 2023. Finally, the university was able to successfully establish a modern incinerator that operates on LPG in university lands at Uda Peradeniya away from populated areas. The incinerator was ceremonially handed over to the University and commissioned on April 24th, 2023. Professor WM. Terrence Madhujith, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Mahinda Ekanayake, the Acting Registrar, Ms. Jayantha Dharmasiri, the Deputy Registrar, Dr. Chandima Herath, the Chief Medical Officer of the Health Centre, Dr. Ruwanjith, Public Health Inspector, Health Centre and other university officials took part in the handing over ceremony.
