Prof. Buddhi Marambe of the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, has been awarded the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the International Weed Science Society (IWSS). The award reflects the commitment and achievements of Prof. Marambe to the field of weed science. The award was presented to him at an awarding ceremony held at the Marriot Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, on December 08th, 2022. at the closing session of the 08th International Weed Science Congress. This year, Prof. Marambe was the Weed Scientist honored from the south and southeast Asian region with this once-in-a-lifetime award.
The IWSS recognizes the contribution of Weed Scientists around the globe at its conferences. Lifetime achievements in the field of Weed Science, contribution to the development of Weed Science, contribution to the policy developments are some of the criteria used to select weed scientists for the award. This award is made once in four years under the title “Lifetime Achievement Award”. The distinguished weed scientists from the world are selected by the International Awards Committee of the IWSS, after assessing the individual contributions. There is no call for applications in selecting scientists for this award.
