Norwegian Partnership for Global Academic Cooperation (NORPART)

Prof. Lena Lybaek and Prof. Adne Valen-Sendstad from the University College of Southeast Norway visited the Postgraduate Institute of Humanities and Social Science (PGIHS) recently to attend the launching of a project jointly conducted by the two Institutions. The Project is a five year collaboration supported by a grant from Norwegian Partnership for Global Academic Cooperation (NORPART) of the Norwegian Center for International Educational Cooperation (SIU). The main activities are capacity building of academuc staff, student exhanges, joint research and establishment of a new Masters Degree Programme in Human Rights and Multiculturalism at PGIHS. Formal launching of the Project was held in the Senate Room of the University of Peradeniya on 1st February 2017 at a ceremony attended by H.E. Thorbjørn Gaustadsæther, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake, Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya and Director, PGIHS Prof. Ananda Jayawickrama. Prof Lena Lybaek and Prof. Anoma Abhayaratne serve as the co-ordinators of the project. During their stay the Norwegian team met with staff and students of the PGIHS and also visited organizations working on human rights and multiculturalism in the country.
