The 6th International Conference on Sri Lanka – Japan Collaborative Research (SLJCR 2018)

The 6th International Conference on Sri Lanka – Japan Collaborative Research (SLJCR 2018) was held at the Postgraduate institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya on 1st September, 2018. The event was graced by Prof. Upul B Dissanayake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. S.H.P. Parakrama Karunaratne, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. H.M.T.G.A. Pitawala, Director of PGIS, Dr. Jagath Munasinghe, Chairman of the Urban Development Authority, Prof. Sugata Takahashi of Niigata University, Prof. N.S Cooray from the International University of Japan, Prof. Ken Kawamoto of Saitama University, Mr. Tanaka Kiyotaki, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. In addition, the event was attended by many distinguished guests, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, Directors of Units and Centers, staff members from other universities, academic/non-academic members and students of the University of Peradeniya.
The main objectives of SLJCR 2018 were to create a common platform to present, discuss, and exchange ideas on collaborative research between Sri Lanka and Japan, and to advocate, encourage and create an open dialogue between Sri Lankan and Japanese researchers on studies between the two countries, by which the knowledge could be shared for a better future. This year, the theme of the conference was “Mitigating global issues through collaboration and partnership”. There were 49 presentations and the accepted papers were published in a special volume of proceedings with an international standard book number (ISBN).
