B. Lavanan created a new SLUG Record for Pole Vault
B. Lavanan, a 4th year student of the Faculty of Arts (A/14/308) created a new Sri Lanka University Games and New Inter University record for the Pole Vault men’s event held on 27th July, 2019 at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo. He cleared the height of 3.91m at the Sri Lanka University Games Track & Field Championships 2019. He has broken his own record of 3.70m created in 2017 Inter University Track & Field Championships held at the Diyagama Athletic Stadium, Homagama. B. Lavanan is the Vice Captain of the University of Peradeniya men’s Athletic Team for the year 2019.
A.M.W.L. Amarathunga Placed 03rd in 800m Men’s event
The Captain of the University athletics men’s team, A.M.W.L. Amarathunga (E/14/014), grabbed the bronze medal in his pet event after a ‘close finish’ at the recently held Sri Lanka University Games 2019 held at Sugathadasa stadium, Colombo.
P.D.P.O. Peramuna secured the Bronze Medal in 400 m Hurdles Event
P.D.P.O. Peramuna, an engineering 04th year student (E/14/241) placed third and won the bronze medal in her pet event, 400m hurdles at the SLUG 2019 held on 27th July 2019 at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo. She is the Captain of the University of Peradeniya women’s Hurdles team for the year 2019.
Peradeniya University Hockey Men’s Team Emerged as Champions
Men’s hockey team was thrilled after a stunning win over University of Colombo at the finals of the Sri Lanka University Hockey tournament held from 02nd to 04th July, 2019 at the Uyanwatta ground, Matara. There was a closed fight for the gold medal from both universities. The 01st half ended 0:0. The tensed 02nd half was a nail-biting time for all the supporters of both teams. The University of Peradeniya fought hard and N.K. Willawalaarachchi, an Allied Health Science 03rd year student, played superbly throughout the tournament and netted the ball for the solitary goal scored at the finals and paved the way to victory. At the quarter finals Peradeniya beat the University of Jaffna by 2:0 and at the semifinal Pera Team defeated Rajarata University by 2:0.
