The execution of Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Edinburgh and the University of Peradeniya

The execution of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and the University of Peradeniya was taken place at the office of Vice Chancellor on 26th October 2020. Professor Upul B. Dissanayake; the Vice Chancellor placed the authorized signatory on the official documents on behalf of the University of Peradeniya.

This particular MoU has been generally designed to foster academic and research collaborations across three disciplines, namely Community Medicine, Nursing and Veterinary Clinical Sciences. The Deans of Faculties of Medicine, Allied Health Sciences and Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science, the Heads of relevant departments and a couple of academics who initiated this MOU as coordinators representing three faculties were also among the dignitaries who presented at this special occasion.

In 2017 and 2018, academic delegates from School of Health and Social Science, University of Edinburgh along with members of India & South Asia Liaison Office of University of Edinburgh visited the University of Peradeniya, especially the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and the Department of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science, and were laying the foundations for a sound academic and research collaboration between two parties.

Hence, on the distinguished background of the University of Edinburgh as a reputed international higher education institute throughout centuries, this official collaboration between two universities would evidently create a fertile environment for future aspirations on academic teaching, innovative research and exchange/training programs for the beneficiaries. Further, the MoU identifies that developing resources to support community services, is also as a key task upon the agreement between two institutes.
