Two Masters degree programmes, namely Masters in Public Health and MSc. in Exercise and Sports Science were commenced by taking the first intake of students on April 29th at the PGIMS currently located in the old police building belonging to the University. Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission graced the occasion. The Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Professor WM. Terrence Madhujith, the Acting vice-Chancellor, Professor Samath Dharmaratne, The Director of the PGIMS, Professor CMB Dematawewa, the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture and Professor Suresh de Mel, the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Science, Professor Vsanthi Pinto, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Athula Ekanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Dr. Udaya Dissanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Members of the Board of Management of the PGIMS, academics, the president of the Alumni Association of University of Peradeniya, Deputy Bursar and Assistant Registrar, the new registrants for the two programs were present.
