The University of Peradeniya, the premier research university in Sri Lanka, invites applications for twenty PhD studentships commencing on October 1, 2024. These 3-year studentships offer an opportunity to join multidisciplinary research teams and tackle research challenges through both theoretical study and practical experimentation. Selected candidates will receive a stipend of Rs 100,000 per month for three years to support their PhD work.
Agriculture and Allied Areas:
- Ten PhD studentships are available for candidates who meet the following criteria: (i) a BSc degree in Agriculture, Science, or related fields with a first-class division, (ii) an MSc degree in the relevant research area, or (iii) an MPhil degree from a recognized university.
- Candidates must be registered at the Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture.
Open Discipline:
- The remaining ten PhD studentships are open to candidates from any discipline.
- Registration for the PhD will be under the appropriate faculty based on the candidate’s field of study.
Expectations and Requirements:
- PhD students are expected to be full-time researchers while contributing to undergraduate programs by conducting lectures and tutorial classes, thereby fostering a strong connection between undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Selected candidates must sign a surety bond and an agreement with the University of Peradeniya, committing to complete their PhD within three years.
- In exceptional circumstances, the PhD duration can be extended by six months with the approval of the Higher Degrees Committee/Board of Study, though no stipend will be provided beyond the initial three years.
