The first International Conference on University–industry Collaborations for Sustainable Development (ICSD) 2024 was successfully held on March 15-17 in Colombo. The conference brought together a diverse group of experts, visionaries, and leaders to explore sustainable solutions, innovative technologies, and entrepreneurial strategies in agro-industries.
At the heart of this transformative movement are two groundbreaking projects: FOUNTAIN and SECRA. These initiatives delve into the challenges and opportunities of University-Industry partnerships in Sri Lankan Government, and private and international Universities highlighting gaps in research, innovation outcomes, and collaborations while fostering stronger bonds between academia and industry.
The International Conference was graced by esteemed participants: Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, as the chief guest, and Prof. Dilanthi Amaratunga, University of Huddersfield, UK, as the Guest of Honor. Dr. Ravi Liyanage, co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Raigam Group and Prof. Evangelia Petridou, Mid-Sweden University also participated as keynote speakers, emphasizing the alignment of industrial interests with national public interests, particularly in industries.
The FOUNTAIN and SECRA projects represent a holistic approach to advancing sustainable industries through innovation and collaboration. By addressing the diverse needs of graduates, academics, and industries, these initiatives pave the way for a more resilient, prosperous, and sustainable future for all.
