On 9th December 2024, His Excellency Mr. Akio Isomata, the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, visited the University of Peradeniya. Mr. Isomata, who officially assumed duties in Colombo on 7 November 2024 toured the university, which is home to the Sri Lanka-Japan Study Center. This center was established in partnership with the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, reflecting the strong educational and cultural ties between the two nations.
The Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Upul Dissanayake, Professor Sajive Ariyarathna and Dr. Poornika Seelagama/Director, Sri Lanka-Japan Study Center met the dignitaries. The discussions were carried out on ways to enhance and promote collaborative research and academic studies between the two countries focusing on creating a robust framework for fostering research collaborations across various disciplines, aiming to leverage the strengths of both nations’ academic and scientific communities. His Excellency Mr. Akio Isomata reestablished the fact that Sri Lanka and Japan have complementary academic strengths and emphasized continued cooperation.
The meeting concluded with His Excellency Mr. Akio Isomata reaffirming the shared commitment between Sri Lanka and Japan to strengthen academic and cultural exchanges.
