The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between University of Peradeniya and Greenstat Hydrogen Pvt. Ltd. Sri Lanka was signed by Prof. Terrence Madhujith, the Vice Chancellor of University of Peradeniya and His Excellency Mr. Sturle H. Pedersen, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Bergen, Norway and Chairman of the Board, Greenstat Asia Pvt. Ltd. on 10th March 2025 at the Vice Chancellor’s Office, University of Peradeniya. Greenstat Hydrogen is a Norwegian green energy company specializing in hydrogen technologies, leading advisor and active player in the green hydrogen (GH2) industry, offering a range of services and verticals to facilitate the transition to renewable energy. The key objectives of the MoU is to establish a Hydrogen Centre of Excellence at University of Peradeniya, create a Hydrogen Association, promote capacity development, talent acquisition, student programs and collaborate inresearch and product development.
Prof. Sanath Rajapakse (Dean/Faculty of Science), Prof. Roshan D. Yapa (Director/ Business Linkage, Innovation, Incubation and Technology Transfer Office), Prof. Gamini Rajapakse and Dr. Piyumali K. Perera (Director/Science-Industry Interaction Cell, Faculty of Science), Ms. Prasadini Wickramasinghe (Engineer/Coordinator COE-H SL (Center of Excellence for Hydrogen in Sri Lanka)) and Mr. E.M.G.M.B. Ekanayake (Registrar/University of Peradeniya) participated at the MoU signing ceremony. Activities under the MoU will be coordinated by the Science-Industry Interaction Cell, Faculty of Science. A discussion was carried out on ways that Greenstat Hydrogen could support and facilitate Sri Lanka for the transition to renewable energy. His Excellency Mr. Sturle Pedersen highlighted the potential of Sri Lanka in renewable energy production and export, thus, highlighted the importance of high-impact training and knowledge-sharing that will take place through this partnership to strengthen the role of University of Peradeniya in the renewable energy sector in Sri Lanka.
