The 15 th session of the Vice Chancellor’s Lecture Series was successfully conducted on 15 th of October 2025 at 12.30 p.m. in the Senate Room of the University of Peradeniya with the participation of the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Deans of the Faculties, Directors of Postgraduate Institutes and Centers, Heads of the Departments, as well as many academic and administrative staff. The Vice Chancellor’s Lecture Series is aimed to provide the University community with a distinctive opportunity to engage with and learn from eminent scholars in their respective fields of expertise. It serves as a platform for intellectual enrichment, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and knowledge within the academic community.
The speaker for the event was Prof. Prathiba Mahanamahewa, Rector of the Sri Palee Campus, University of Colombo and Attorney at Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. Prof. Prathiba Mahanamahewa delivered an insightful and timely speech on “Organized Crime and Society: Understanding the Threat and Mitigation Approaches” addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our era, the multifaceted impact of organized crime on social stability, governance, and the rule of law. Here, he explained many aspects including drug trafficking networks, human trafficking/smuggling, money laundering, cyber crimes, effective mitigation strategies for prevention and control through strengthening law enforcement, policies and legislative measures.
