The International Conference on Climate Change and Agriculture (CCATL 2025), organized by the National Science Foundation (NSF), was held in Colombo on May 5–6, 2025 with the participation of over 300 foreign and local participants. The University of Peradeniya and the Center for Environmental Sustainability (CES) at the University of Peradeniya contributed to the successful completion of the conference as academic partners.
In parallel to the post-conference field visit, a delegation of foreign participants, led by Prof. Saman Seneweera, Chairman of the NSF, visited the University of Peradeniya on May 7, 2025. The purpose of the visit was to showcase the university's academic excellence and its contributions to climate-resilient agriculture. The visit was organized by CES, in coordination with Prof. S.A.C.N. Perera and Dr. W.H. Jayasinghe from the Department of Agricultural Biology, Faculty of Agriculture.
The delegates were welcomed by Dr. Nalin Suranjith, Director of CES, at the Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS). An interactive session highlighting the university’s history, academic achievements, and research excellence was conducted by Prof. C.K. Benaragama from the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, and Prof. B.M.N.W.B. Balasooriya, Director of PGIS. The delegates then took part in a guided tour of key locations at the university. During the visit, Prof. Seneweera met with Prof. Terence Madhujith, Vice-Chancellor of the university, and expressed his gratitude to the university and CES for their support in organizing CCATL 2025 as an academic partner.
