University Admissions

Admission of Undergraduate students to the University of Peradeniya is done by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on the basis of a national admission policy for Universities in Sri Lanka prepared in consultation with the Ministry of Higher Education and in line with the national policies. Postgraduate admission is the responsibility of the respective Faculties and Postgraduate Institutes.

Undergraduate Admission

Under the admission policies in operation at present the candidates who have obtained at least “S” grade in three of the approved subjects in the respective stream (Arts, Commerce and Science) and a minimum of 30% for the Common General Paper are eligible to apply for admission to a University. From the applicants the UGC selects a pool for University admission on competitive basis to allocate them to Universities. The annual intake of the University of Peradeniya is around 2900 undergraduates. Those who wish to obtain more information may visit http://www.ugc.lk.

Postgraduate Admission

Candidates for Postgraduate Degree Programmes may be registered as regular fulltime/ part-time, provisional or casual students under a Department of Study of a Faculty or a Postgraduate Institute.  The basic requirement for admission to a postgraduate degree is a Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant subject. For admission to Ph.D. programme, the candidates are expected have a Master’s Degree which may be waived at the discretion of the relevant Board of Study in the case of a Postgraduate Institute or a Department of Study in the case of a Faculty.
