The University of Peradeniya has been awarded the Bronze Award in the University Category at the Best Annual Reports and Accounts (BARA) Awards – 2025, organized by the Association of Public Finance Accountants of Sri Lanka (APFASL), the public sector wing of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).
The award ceremony was held on 5 February 2026 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo, in conjunction with the Annual Conference of APFASL. The competition aims to enhance the quality of annual reports and accounts issued by public sector institutions, while promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance practices across the public sector.
The 9th BARA Awards witnessed strong participation, with 260 public sector institutions competing for top honours. Of these, 45 entities were recognised as winners, while 187 institutions received Compliance Certificates, reflecting notable improvements in public sector financial reporting standards and governance practices.
The prestigious event was graced by Hon. Nishantha Jayaweera, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Aloka Bandara, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Local Government and Provincial Councils, as the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished attendees included Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, President of CA Sri Lanka, Ms. Anoji De Silva, Vice President of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. V. Kanagasabathy, President of APFASL, Dr. Asela Atapattu, Secretary of APFASL, and Ms. Lakmali Priyangika, Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka, along with senior officials and over 600 public sector finance professionals representing institutions across the country.
The Bronze Award on behalf of the University of Peradeniya was received by Mr. A.M.N.B. Arampath, Bursar, and Ms. Kanchana Atapattu, Statistical Officer. This achievement reflects the collective commitment and coordinated efforts of all officers who contributed to the preparation of the University’s Annual Report and Accounts.
The University’s recognition at the BARA Awards underscores its continued dedication to high standards of financial reporting, accountability, and institutional transparency.
Following the award ceremony, Mr. A.M.N.B. Arampath, Bursar, and Ms. Kanchana Atapattu, Statistical Officer, formally presented the Bronze Award to the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and Acting Registrar on 9 February 2026 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. Building on this achievement, the University remains committed to further strengthening its reporting practices and striving for even higher recognition in the years ahead.
