Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of The New Office of The International Research Centre (InRC)

The new office of the International Research Centre was opened on the 18 July 2017 at the A6 building of the University of Peradeniya. The office was opened by Prof Upul B Dissanayake, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Deans of the Faculties, Directors of the PGIs, registrar, bursar, executive officers were present at the ceremony. The A6 building located near the Department of Law was fully renovated and refurbished to host the International Research Centre. The new office of the InRC is expected to host international scholars visiting the University of Peradeniya.

The ceremony was initiated with a speech by Dr. Nanda Gunawardhana, Director of the International Research Centre where he explained the journey of the InRC with its achievements and challenges faced so far and its directions for future with the new office. Then Professor SBS Abeykoon, who was the Vice-Chancellor at the time gave speech on the history of the initiation of the International Research Centre in the year 2012, which was the first of its kind to be a fully fledged operational programme focused at developing the research and international affairs of the University with a full time working staff.

Then the former Vice-Chancellor Professor Atula Senarathne gave a speech on as developments during their terms and wished all the best for the future of the InRC.

Then the current Vice-Chancellor Professor Upul B Dissanayake spoke about the current status and the progress of the InRC under his guidance. He is one who have witnessed the beginning of the centre as a member of its Board of Management in his capacity then as the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, and under whose guidance the InRC functions now. Professor Upul B Dissanayake stated that the fullest support and encouragement shall be given to the InRC in its future endeavours to achieve new heights for the University of Peradeniya in the global sphere of research and academia.
