Sri Lanka Japan Collaborative Conference.

The Conference on Sri Lanka Japan Collaborative Research was held as scheduled from 29th to 31st March quite successfully.

The Conference was launched off with an inaugural ceremony that was held at Earl’s Regency at 4 pm on 29th. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Sunil Jayantha Nawarathne, the secretary to the Ministry of Higher Education. The Guest of Honor was His Excellency, the Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Nobuhito Hobo. The Vice Chancellor and all the higher officials of the University of Peradeniya were also in attendance.

The Ceremony started off with the Welcome address being delivered by Prof. Buddhi Marambe the conference co-chair. The gathering were addressed by the chief guest and the guest of honor. This was followed by three keynote speakers by three eminent persons, Prof. Hisashi Nakamura (Conference Co-Chair), Prof. Maddhuma Bandara and Prof. Monte Cassim. Prof. P. Rathnayake, the chair of the keynote sessions conducted and introduced the keynote session and speakers.

The Launching of the Sri Lanka Japan Study Centre also took place at the inaugural ceremony of the Conference on Sri Lanka Japan Collaborative Research. It was launched by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya. The Website for the Sri Lanka Japan Study Centre was also launched at the same time.

A brief presentation on the Sri Lanka Japan Study Centre by the Director of the International Research Centre followed and the evening ended with a cultural show and dinner.

The sessions for the Conference were held at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Peradeniya. The sessions commenced at 9 am and went through the entire day. Totally ten sessions were conducted on the themes of, Agriculture livestock and forestry, Social Sciences and Humanities, Engineering , health and Hygiene, Earth Science, Information and communication technology mathematics & Statistics, Climate and Environment and Natural and Basic Sciences Energy.
