Tokyo Tech University, Japan and the University of Peradeniya has an annual student exchange programme aimed at academic interaction and exchange. Annually a team from the Tokyo Tech University visits Peradeniya for the programme which includes lectures, industrial visits, field visits, interaction sessions with UoP students. As a follow up to this programme, Tokyo Tech students started a project to develop a new technology for toilets for Sri Lanka using less water and no electricity. Under this project, three students from Tokyo Tech visited Peradniya in March in order to conduct field research. The students visited several places in the Sri Lanka and also met Dr. Nanda Gunawardhana, Director of the International Research Centre where the discussions were made about the project.
