Musical Meeting Space at University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo

The first Musical Meeting Space of the Sri Lanka Norway Music Cooperation for the year 2017 was held on 13-15 October 2017 at University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo. The session carried out the theme of Folk Traditions around the Life Cycle (from birth to death).

The performances were encapsulated with different regions focus on their specific folk music and these events were represented by the participated students from the Universities of Peradeniya, Colombo, Jaffna, Visual and Performing Arts along with the Swamy Vipulananda Centre for Aesthetic Studies, Batticaloa.

At the event, five students from the Department of Fine Arts (specialize in Music and drama) and two staff members from the International Affairs Office represented University of Peradeniya. The event was hosted by the Sevalanka Foundation under Sri Lanka Norway Music Cooperation and the performances of this Musical Space- 1 were supervised by Kalasuri Deshanethru Arunthathy Sri Ranganathan.

The basic objectives of the Musical Meeting Space of the Sri Lanka Norway Music Cooperation is to train the students in performances, understanding the traditions of the ethnic groups in Sri Lanka and creating meaningful University network within the country. The Musical Space further provided a preliminary space for learning and after two days of rehearsal, the students collaboratively performed their final outcomes to the audience consists of the staff and the students of University of Visual and Performing Arts.
