Dr. Mohd Farhan Hanif Reduan, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) visited the University of Peradeniya on the 10th of March 2023. Dr. Reduan was accompanied by Dr. Intan Noor Aina Kamaruzaman, Coordinator of Student Mobility & Internationalisation and Dr. Thilini Gamage, Lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UMK. Dr. Thilini Gamage is a recent graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science (FVMAS), University of Peradeniya.
Dr. Reduan and the delegation were welcomed by Prof. MD. Lamawansa, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya. Prof. CNRA. Alles, Director of the International Relations Office, and Prof. Anil Pushpakuamra, Dean of the FVMAS attended by Dr. Rasika Jinadasa, Coordinator of the Postgraduate Education Unit of FVMAS and Dr. MNM. Fouzi, Chairperson of the Higher Degrees Committee of FVMAS.
Following a brief introduction to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, UMK by Dr. Reduan, possible academic collaborations including student and staff exchanges, and joint research projects between the two universities were discussed. It was agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Peradeniya and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan. The delegation then met the staff of FVMAS and discussed potential collaborations in detail. Dr. Reduan who is a member of the Malaysian Veterinary Council (MVC) mentioned that the BVSc degree offered by the University of Ceylon is still recognized by the MVC, and invited to make a formal request to extend the recognition to the BVSc degree offered by University of Peradeniya. The Dean, FVMAS agreed to attend it immediately. The delegation visited facilities at FVMAS including the teaching and research laboratories, Teaching Farm, and Teaching Hospitals.
