On 30 th August 2024, delegates from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dhanbad visited the University of Peradeniya to explore potential academic collaborations. The visit, arranged by the International Relations Office (InRO), began with a warm welcome by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. W.M.T. Madhujith.
The delegation, which included Dr. Tanmoy Maity, Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Associate Dean of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, and Mr. Mritunjay Sharma, Assistant Registrar of International Relations and Alumni Affairs, held an initial meeting at the Vice Chancellor's office. The meeting was attended by Prof. C.N.R.A. Alles, Director of the InRO, and the InRO staff, where discussions focused on fostering academic cooperation between the two institutions.
Following this, the delegates visited the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science. They met with Dr. Jagath Gunathilake and explored collaborative opportunities in areas such as geology, mining, geophysics, GIS, and related fields. Possible avenues for joint research, faculty and student exchanges, as well as dual degree programs, were discussed during this productive session.
The final meeting of the visit took place at the Faculty of Engineering, where Dr. Tanmoy Maity and Mr. Mritunjay Sharma met with Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Dr. Panduka Neluwala, the Faculty representative for InRO, and Dr. Isuru Dasanayake, Department representative for international activities. The discussions here focused on potential research collaborations and academic exchange programs.
