A team of delegates of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGGCAS) led by Academician Prof. Mingguo Zhai, visited the University of Peradeniya on 15.01.2025 and met the Vice Chancellor and Academic Staff of the Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, at the Vice Chancellor’s Office.
The main focus of the meeting was to discuss updates and prospects of collaborations between the IGGCAS and UOP and donation of GNSS enabled ionospheric measuring systems to the UOP for scientific research. Further, the two parties extended their interests on geological collaboration and academic exchange and the ways of how the expertise of the Chinese Academy of Science and its facilities could be utilized to build up new partnerships and corporations for Sri Lanka’s mineral sector and geological explorations and scientific research.
These activities may help to further uplift the UOP’s international visibility and ranking status. The meeting and the visit of the IGGCAS delegates was coordinated by Prof. Sanjeewa P.K. Malaviarachchi of the Department of Geology.
