PROGRAM
&
Academics
During the last 75 years of its existence at Peradeniya, the University has developed into the largest and most comprehensive university in Sri Lanka. However, its developmental trajectory has traversed a rugged terrain at times. While the challenge of planning, building and moving into a new university in the formative years was met with categorical success, its results could not be achieved fully, mainly due to developments that transpired over the years. The University of Peradeniya has currently emerged as a leading global centre of excellence in education, training, research and outreach. The challenge ahead is to tap this great source of creativity and energy associated with entrepreneurial activity, but in a way that preserves our fundamental mission and values. We need to encourage our tradition of natural evolution, but to do so with greater strategic intent. Instead of continuing to evolve as an unconstrained transactional entrepreneurial culture, we need to guide this process in such a way as to preserve our core missions, characteristics, and values.
